Top Ten Bands

This section of the Top Ten list will include the notion of bands and their influence in everyday life. This list mentions rock and metal bands that have a might higher influence than those of the hip-hop and rap genre because rock and roll has survived for over sixty years of popularity and metal has been around since the 1970s for a total of forty-four years. I will include some Indie bands that are also the most influential in the creation of indie music.
1. The Rolling Stones come from the other side of the pond, but their music along with the Beatles have been integrated in many modern movies. The music is rock with a swig of blues and the band has created numerous chart topping hits like "I Can't Go No Satisfaction", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", and "Start me Up". The famous logo of a lip with a tongue sticking out is probably one of the most iconic fashion labels in every rocker's wardrobe. Their importance in the pushing of Rock and Roll in the 1960s has placed them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 along with their sister rock band The Beatles.
2. The Beatles were also an iconic band in the 1960s. Although two of the former band members are still alive, they are second in influence. The Beatles also have some chart topping hits like "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds", "Nowhere Man", "Let It Be", and "Twist and Shout". However, when the band split up, rumors that Lennon's wife Yoko Ono was the cause which in fact was not true. The band split and went their own ways due ti stylistic differences, but somehow were still able to attract an audience because of their former start status with each other.
3. The Smiths were another British band who reached iconic fame from the 1980s. Morrissey and his band members often wrote about songs that were related to their life stories or where each member came from. Some of the iconic Smith's tunes include "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out", "William, It Was Really Nothing", "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now", and "How Soon Is Now?" which was covered for the witch series Charmed in the 1990s. Although the band split up following the change in times, their sound was often used on the topics of political and social aspects.
4. Van Halen was one of the most memorable American metal bands of the 1980s. Their song "Running With the Devil" was about the ways in which rock and metal music have been called the music of the devil because of the particular topics that are mentioned in the songs which talk about the general rock motto of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. The band is influential because of Eddie Van Halen, sone of the former member of Van Halen, brought shredding guitars and crazy triplet fingerings to the bands music. Some of the famous songs in which Eddie's crazy finger play are heavily included into the bands persona of a metal band are "Hot for Teacher", "You Really Got Me" which was the Van Halen cover of The Kinks original song, and "Panama".
5. The Cure is a British band who were the original creators of the Gothic rock genre. The band often used dark and somber lyrics to tell the actual meanings on things like love and all aspects of being in love, suffering pain from love or heartbreak caused by loving someone. The band has had a numerous influence in people who wanted to identify themselves as not a rock artists or a metal artists and gave another outlet for people whose songs might have been too dark for the public to hear.
6. Led Zeppelin was the first British band to introduce metal genre to the public ears. The band was increasingly popular because of how different the sound was compared to the soft syncopated rhythm of The Stones, Doors, and Beatles. The band created it's legacy with their infamous song "Stairway to Heaven" and from there the band has kept its fame and glory inside the Hall of Fame. Although the band broke up after the death of one of its members from a drug overdose,it is still a successful band whose record sales after their breakup has continued to climb with people who are interested in listening to new genres of music.
7. Depeche Mode was the first British band to introduce electronic music in the 1980s. Although I have mentioned that there was the first female electronic band in an earlier post, this was the band who led the ground work into electronic music that grew in fame in the 1990s following the fame of the infamous grunge band Nirvana with Kurt Cobain's muttering lyrics. The band itself wrote the song and their famous single "Enjoy the Silence" as a song about peace and quiet, relationships who have reached their breaking points, and the concepts of the novel The Little Prince. The band mentioned in an interview that the music video was about a king who has no kingdom who wants to enjoy the sounds of silence or nature because of its quiet tranquil use. The band has numerous singles but if you ask your parents about this band, "Enjoy the Silence" would be the one they know off the top of their heads.
8. Nirvana is the all-American band who created the forms of grunge rock and the entire genre of grunge music. The infamous song by the band, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and its music video shows us what kind of future we choose.
9. The Ramones were another great American band. Although the last remaining member of the band previously died, they were the first band to introduce punk rock to the growing number of people who want to find other rock outlets for their own personal rebellious streaks.
10. Jimi Hendrix might not have been the first to discover psychedelic rock, but he was the most iconic symbol of the sound. Originally, psychedelic rock is by Frank Zappa. But we all know Jimi Hendrix due ti reference to his music in a couple of movies. If it s anyone people should respect, we should respect Mr. Hendrix.
