Grease Is The Word...Or Is It LP?

The famous LP (Long Play), or according to our parent's generation known as as the record player, has been signified as the symbol of the good times in many movies like Dirty Dancing (1987), Toy Story 2 (1999), Pulp Fiction (1994), and Lilo & Stitch (2002). But what is interesting enough, the record itself is making a comeback thanks to people who enjoy its old-fashioned quality.

When it comes to records, most people believe that they might have died out when the rise of CD's and Walkman's became a popular late 90's culture norm (believe me I had one or two of those Walkman's growing up so that I could listen to NSYNC or Backstreet Boys on the go). However those records were still around, they were just collecting dust until a person began to play them again.

Now that the records have become a thing of modern delicacy within the music genre, companies now are making record players which can play more than one form of entertainment. Some record players can play both LP's and CD's, some play both and include cassettes and radio stations. In a blog mentioned by Will Oremus, he concludes that maybe people are sick of buying their music off the net and from the store. If they want quality music, they are going for something more authentic, like I don't know a record? In fact he adds that record sales have been climbing since 2012, ouch Apple, looks like those awesome iPods and iPhones are out of business.

But what caused the shift anyway? Well some people believe that when the CD's were first created, there was a number of years where it was trendy and one of the many wonderful ways to spend your money on the next Elton John or Guns N' Roses CD for that shiny black Walkman. But when the electronic purchases of iTunes music became successful, the CD lost its touch. iTunes and all Apple products were the king of music for a while because it was the 21st century and there was a new market for the next millennium. But perhaps the reason why Oremus believes people choose the LP, might just be the fact that it is time to enjoy more simpler things in life. It's all sugar and spice until CD's and Apple products are all out of sight.
